Well hello again! I know it has been quite some time since you’ve last heard from me. I had to take some time away to focus on some other things outside of school and my internship, but now I am getting back on track! First, there are a few things I think we should catch up and talk about!
Now we can get to the fun stuff! (Even though there isn’t that much of it!) My first day working in the middle school classroom, I worked with an 8th grade civics class that was learning about the United States Supreme Court. The teacher, Mr. R, was presenting a slideshow over the projector, but also had copies on GoogleClassroom for each student to access because they would be doing activities throughout the lesson. Mr. R asked students to read on their own, collaborate with groups, or simply ask direct questions throughout the lesson to keep students engaged and paying attention. One of the biggest takeaways I had from this class was that I don’t mind working with this age group, but I still would prefer the second grade class I worked with over the 8th graders. There is much more on the way in the upcoming weeks so don't forget to check back in regularly to see any updates I have for you all!

This was another amazing week for me! I was able to spend around 2.5 hours at my internship, and I honestly learned so so much. I had forgotten what it was like to be in an elementary school classroom, learning things that, at the time were so difficult but now, I see them as things that are so simple to understand. More details of that and other things I did at my internship will be available on my podcast which I plan on releasing tonight, or tomorrow. We will see, and I hope you are as excited to learn about my internship as I am to share!
As for the rest of the week, our Legacy class has kicked things into gear, and finally started thinking about what we need to do for the end of the year. Mrs. Mik introduced us to the three parts of the final project that we need to complete:
Overall I feel like my project is in a really good place right now and I am excited for what’s to come! THIS WEEK WAS AMAZING! Alongside some other personal victories I had this week, I was finally able to start working in the classroom! A more detailed run down of my first day will be on my podcast, which is coming out very soon! There will also be a transcript available on my website for anyone who is unable to listen to the podcast. As for the blog post, there isn’t too much to share! It was a very easy day, and the perfect way to get situated in the classroom before too much starts happening.
Unfortunately, the second day I had to miss due to a dentist appointment. I was very upset that I couldn’t go, but it just makes me even more excited to see them all next week! As for tomorrow, since I do have A block first thing in the morning, I will share with you what happens! Since the high school day starts at 7:30am, and ends before the elementary school day even begins, myself and the two other interns are to report to our school’s media center for the block. During this time, we are to work on the assignments given to us to receive grades for this class. We will work on two things each time we have A block first:
Unfortunately, I was not able to start in the classroom this week. The school that I am working with has been a bit hard to reach the past couple weeks, so I have not received any more details regarding my internship. After meeting with Mrs. Towne yesterday, she had told me she was going to call the school to get more information so the students doing this internship, including myself, can get in as soon as possible. Other than that there wasn’t much else going on for me this week. I only met with my legacy class twice this week, and one of my days was spent trying to get in touch with Mrs. Towne and Mrs. Mik about getting into the classroom. And the other day I simply spent going over the research I had done to remind myself of a couple things before I start in the classroom. Easy and simple week, but next week should get much better!
This week I didn’t exactly get done what I wanted to, but did find out some more assuring information. Unfortunately I was unable to find out more information from the school I will be interning with, but my guidance counselor told me I can always spend time in the media center during my interning block as we try to figure out more information. In addition, Mrs. Mik is waiting to here back from the school and will be getting more information for me soon.
My podcast trailer is still in the works, and I hope to have it uploaded by the end of the day. My podcast (once uploaded) will be linked in the elementary education tab of my website. Any other ways to access it will be announced in my next blog post! Overall I feel like my project is in a good place, and I am ready to start working in the classroom. In the meantime, I am going to continue working on my podcast and do more research to learn as much as I can about elementary education as possible. As the end of the month gets closer and closer I am getting nervous and excited about starting to work in a classroom! For the next couple weeks, I am going to try my best to prepare for the 26th, which is when I’ll start working in the classroom.
This week one of my goals was to touch base with my guidance counselor, who has helped me set this up, to find out more details about the start of this project. Unfortunately she is out of school for this week and part of next, so she hasn’t been able to help me. Thankfully Mrs. Mik is going to help me find out more information about the start of my internship. I also have been making progress on my podcast and planning out my first couple releases. I hope to have the trailer for my podcast out this week! A link to the podcast will be available soon! The first official episode will be released after my first week working in the classroom! Other than those couple things, I didn’t work on anything else this week. As always check out below for more of the progress I made this week, and look out for my podcast trailer coming very soon! Happy 2022! I hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday season this year. This was the first week back to school, and yet once again, I found myself having very limited time in class. Unfortunately, I was out sick for the first two days back from the break, so I already missed out on one class time. Then I was back in school for two days, and then we were out for a snow day. So I only had two class periods to work on my project this week.
However, I was able to get all my goals for the week completed. Granted, I didn’t give myself much to do. All I did was my goals, my January monthly planner, and now my blog post. And that was it! I will include pictures of my goals and January planner below! So that’s it for this week! Next week will be a bit more exciting as I finally prepare to start working in a classroom! I had quite a few things to work on this week, and I was able to get most of it done. I personally had a short week, and only met with my Legacy class twice. The other two times my class met I was on a field trip for one of my other classes, and then had an appointment during the other class.
During the time I was in class, I was able to get a lot of work done for my podcast! I have all the general details planned out, and next week I hope I will be able to plan out and record my first episode! Other than that, not much else happened. I am trying to keep my podcast details to myself until I have released the first episode, so there isn’t much else I can share with you. Next week I will not be posting an update due to having a shorter week due to the holiday. So I will see you in 2022! Happy holidays! I am so excited about the progress I made this week. I dedicated my class time this week (which was somewhat limited), to completing my internship calendar and starting to plan my podcast! I have decided that one aspect of my final project for the end of the year will be presented as a podcast, and most likely alongside some form of visual. I am currently in the works of planning out all the details for the podcast itself, and the first couple episodes. Stay tuned for more information regarding my podcast!
Other than beginning to plan my podcast, the only other goal I had for the week was to finish my internship calendar, which is now complete! This calendar is going to allow teachers from the schools I will be working with, to understand what days and times I will be in the classroom with them. It also includes all my district's vacations, days off, and other necessary information. My main goal for next week is just to keep planning out my podcast. I want to start recoding and uploading episodes before I start working in the classroom in January. That’s basically it for this week! Short and simple. See you next week! This week was mostly about organization for me. I completed my weekly planner for the month of December, to really visualize what I needed to accomplish. Photos with my plan for this month will be attached below! The only other goal I had for this week was to get in touch with Mrs. Towne regarding the meeting she was going to have with the middle school principal. I didn’t end up doing this because I missed the day I had set aside to email her. However, Mrs. Mik talked to me today about an internship opportunity at one of the elementary schools, and the middle school, and I am so excited!
Apparently Mrs. Mik and Mrs. Towne have been talking to the principals at the middle school and one of the elementary schools in my district about an internship opportunity for myself and someone else in my class. They came up with the perfect plan:
One of the things I have to do before I start is complete my internship calendar which Mrs. Mik explained to me, and even did the month of January for me. The internship calendar is going to be sent to the teachers I’ll be working with so they can understand when to expect me in their classroom. Once I make some more progress on it I will be able to share it with you. Next week I am going to start something really run, and I am super exited to share it with you! Until next time! |
